2019-2020 HBCU Tour
Entrepreneurial Finance For Black Entrepreneurs
Sponsored by John Rogers Jr. & Mellody Hobson, Co-CEO’s of Ariel Investments
Professor Steven Rogers visited 10 HBCUs, including Howard University, Morgan State University, Spelman College, Bethune-Cookman University, Stillman College, Lincoln University (MO), Lincoln University (PA), Bennett College, North Carolina Central University, and Chicago State University.
These schools did not offer a course on entrepreneurial finance, so Professor Rogers created a workshop titled “Entrepreneurial Finance for Black Entrepreneurs,” where he covered topics of pre-money and post money valuations, cost of capital, sources of equity and debt capital, how to calculate the amount of capital needed, return on investments and internal rates of return, with references to his industry note “Sources of Capital for Black Entrepreneurs.”
In total, the workshop reached nearly 700 students.
